Indigenous Plant Medicine Workshop with Lupita and Luz of Ohtli Yollotl Curanderismo Collective
On Saturday, June 13, KSP welcomed Lupita and Luz of Ohtli Yollotl Curanderismo Collective (@ohtli.yollotl) for an Indigenous Plant Medicine Workshop.
The group gathered around a table displaying dried herbs and got hands-on with six healing plants: rose, lavender, chamomile, rosemary, basil, and lemon balm.
Lupita and Luz walked us through the plant's properties, scents, and medicinal uses. After we learned about the plants, we ground them down ourselves. Hands worked through bags of dried lavender, chamomile, and rosemary, breaking everything into small enough pieces to pack into incense cones made from maca.
At the end of our workshop, we stood together and sang, moving through a simple dance as we repeated the words:
"Earth my body,
water my blood,
air my breath,
and fire my spirit."
This KSP x RYSE event was one of the workshops for our 2025-2026 Land, Climate, and Environment of Koreatown, Pico-Union, and Westlake cohort, which was made possible with a grant from the Department of Public Health's Substance Abuse Prevention and Control Bureau for their RYSE initiative.
