In our Dragonfly Workshop, we will be learning all about henna! It will be led by Tabassun Zaman, who will provide some background about henna, including the origins of henna art and how it is used today in different cultures. Then, we’ll practice doing our own henna art!

We’re excited to start our latest workshop series: Dragonfly Workshops! This will be a five-part series throughout the month of August, kicking off with a People’s Poetry and Creative Writing workshop on Aug. 12. Join us as KSP Audio Producer Tony Morales leads us through this writing workshop. Come with your creative hats on!

Koreatown Storytelling Program warmly invites you to our 2024-2025 culmination! Join us next Fri., March 7 at 4:30 p.m. as we celebrate the end of our Traditional Healing Arts cohort. Our students will be presenting their work from their past year of interviewing and exploring traditional healing in Koreatown! The event will take place at Ye Stage & Tea, who will also be providing traditional Korean teas and Boong’o-bbang (Korean fish-shaped pastries). 🐟🍵🌿

UCLA World Arts and Cultures Professor Dr. David Delgado Shorter will lead a workshop on the diverse modalities of healing in the Koreatown Latine community, which includes bonesetters, limpias, botanicas, and curanderismo, which incorporates folk medicine, scientific medicine, and spiritual practices.

Introduction to Boyle Heights Beat and community newsrooms. Led by Kevin Martinez of Boyle Heights Beat, who will go over what a feature article is and how to write one. Participants will be prepared to write a feature article on a K-Town topic of their choosing!

KSP Elder Participant, Ms. Cathy, will be teaching us how to make soondubu, a South Korean soft tofu stew. Join KSP to learn her recipe and enjoy a homemade meal with our community!

Now that we’ve learned what oral history is, it’s time to dive into oral history interview techniques! KSP Program Coordinator, Dilan Askew, will lead us through the process of transcribing and editing oral history interviews and archival practices.

What is oral history? KSP Program Coordinator, Dilan Askew, will lead a discussion on the ethics and methodology of oral history and delve into how to conduct an oral history interview.

On Tuesday Oct. 1, KSP will be welcoming artist, writer, and advocate Katherine Bahena-Benitez as she leads a Poetry and Storytelling workshop! ✍️

Join us for Indigenous Botanical Dyeing Workshop on Saturday, Sept 28, at Harold A. Henry Park 🌿 led by Meztil Projects. We’ll be learning how to use traditional Korean dyes made from indigo and persimmon! 🍊The workshop will be held from 2:00-4:00pm and is limited to 25 participants.

Are you a high school student interested in learning about a career in film? If you're curious to learn about working in directing, cinematography, or screenwriting, this workshop is for you!

Koreatown Storytelling Program is thrilled to be among a select group of creative projects whose work is featured in a new media collection from The On Being Project and CoGenerate and we can’t wait for the kick-off event on March 23 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET.

KSP is thrilled to be one of 15 leaders featured at Encore’s signature event of the year, the #Gen2Gen Innovation Showcase 2022: Practicing Mutual Aid Across Generations.

This free, 90-minute virtual event will feature music from an intergenerational brass band, an inspiring civic sermon from Citizen University CEO Eric Liu, and presentations highlighting the creative work of 15 leaders who are bringing younger and older people together to co-generate solutions.

In memory of the Korean War (6.25), we would like to have a supper to celebrate a community of Korean elders and their food memories.
