HED: KSP x LA Local: La Yalaltequita Serves Up Oaxaca

This article by Daniella Morales is part of a yearlong youth journalism cohort between The LA Local and the Koreatown Storytelling Program.

The smell of pan dulce and mole drifts out onto the corner of Crenshaw and Venice, where La Yalaltequita has stood for 18 years. Daniella's article follows Sinecio Mecinas, who opened the restaurant and panadería to keep the traditions of his home village in Oaxaca alive in Los Angeles, and traces how the bakery became an anchor for the city's Oaxacan Corridor along Pico Boulevard. For many customers, a tlayuda or a loaf of bread is enough to feel like home again. Daniella's article was published in the LA Local on June 26, 2026.
