The phone line serves as a first step towards expanding access to mental health support among the Korean speaking community in Los Angeles.

On July 13, 2026, KSP x LA Local Graduates: Joyce Kang's article on a Korean-language mental health phone line was published. Mental health isn't something that gets talked about much in the Korean community, and Joyce's piece looks at a hotline trying to change that. Joyce's piece follows Soh Yun Park, who started a warmline last year with her husband to give the Korean speaking community somewhere to call during a hard moment. The story gets into why that matters here specifically. Rates of suicide are high in the community, and asking for help still carries a lot of shame. Joyce traces how one warmline is trying to chip away at that.
