“What is Journalism?” with The LA Local

On Tuesday, Oct. 21, The LA Local student journalism mentor Mallory Carra led an introductory “What is Journalism?” workshop! After delving into the principles of oral history in our first few weeks of the semester, students are now learning journalism basics. We discussed the importance of journalism in our communities and the many different kinds of journalism that we see out there today. Mallory also broke down different types of news stories, such as hard news, opinion, and features.

Mallory will be leading a series of workshops that takes students through various journalism principles, including media literacy, journalism ethics, and how to find a story.
