KORYO at Unwind Your Mind 2024!

On April 19, KORYO (Koreatown Organizing to Reduce Youth Opioid Use) joined fellow KYCC youth leadership groups and youth from the community at Unwind Your Mind Koreatown Youth Summit, an event for high school students to build community and focus on their mental health through art, workshops, and connection. It was a treat to hear actor Ki Hong Lee and Councilwoman Heather Hutt speak about how they unwind and care for themselves!

After almost a year of learning, research, and building their knowledge about opioids and stimulants, recovery services, awareness and stigma, and how to talk to their peers about these topics, KORYO created a capstone presentation for other youth. At Unwind Your Mind, our Youth Advisory Council led an educational workshop on opioids and stimulants, recovery services available to youth in Koreatown, and trained attendees in Nalozone administering! Afterward, the youth passed out Nalozone kits and other harm-reduction resources. They also got to showcase the interviews they conducted with folks who have lived experience with substance use disorder to reduce stigma around access to recovery and promote the fact that recovery is possible!

It was special to see the hard work that our YAC members have been putting in pay off at a great event!
