KSP Summer/Fall 2021

Elder Care in Koreatown

KSP explored and documented the landscape of Elder Care in Koreatown, Los Angeles. We spoke with elders and elder care workers and uncovered their stories and experiences living and working in the nursing homes, elder residences, and assisted living facilities in the community. We were interested in learning about the varying living conditions of residents and their attitudes towards them. We prompted intergenerational dialogue between the youths and elders of the Koreatown community with the hope of increased mutual understanding and connection.

KSP S/F 2021 Youth Participants

Our third cohort of KSP youth participants came from Koreatown high schools and/or had experience working with elders. We learned about the history of elder care in Los Angeles through workshops and gained first hand accounts through interviews with elder care workers and residents in the community. Our students learned about the development of elder care over time and the many struggles of residents especially in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

KSP Winter/Spring 2021 Elder Participants

We interviewed the residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and affordable housing communities as part of our third cohort. Our elder participants live primarily in Koreatown, Los Angeles. We interviewed them about their experiences in elder care residences and heard the rich and varied stories of their lives.
