KARS 2022-2023

Koreatown Access to Recovery Services

In 2022-2023, KSP worked with local youth (ages 15 – 21) to spark conversations about access to recovery services for youth who may be struggling with substance use disorders (SUD) through workshops, discussions, activities, and community outreach. The program, called “Koreatown Access to Recovery Services” (KARS) partnered with youth leaders titled the “Youth Empowerment Council” (YEC) members.

Using interviews, and KSP’s storytelling curriculum YEC members collaborated with peers, families and community members to break down stigma surrounding substance use disorder and recovery treatment. They also worked to educate the community via social media and workshops to raise awareness about opioids, stimulants, substance use disorders, and harm reduction tools such as naloxone administration, helping to make life-saving knowledge more accessible.
